Proclaiming Christ's message changes everything
by Sister Lynne Marie Simonich
In our Gospel passage for Sunday Jesus gives the disciples a mission before he ascends to heaven: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:1). That mission is ours as well but what does it involve?
The letter to the Ephesians gives us directions on living out the mission Jesus has given to us: “…live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love” (Ephesians 4:1-3). How will our lives change if we follow these directions? How would our world change?
The disciples witnessed Jesus’ Ascension and were strengthened to go out and proclaim his message. Jesus gives us the strength to do the same. His mission is now ours.
On this Mother’s Day let us pray for special blessings on all mothers. We also pray for eternal peace for all deceased mothers.
Thank you for this reflection for the Ascension. You reminded me that this feast is about mission. We live our mission by the way we live - with gentleness, patience, bearing with one another.
