Reflection for Aug. 16, 2020

Everyone is everyone

God's house  is for all  who love God

by Sister Agnes Fischer

Isaiah in Sunday's first reading tells us to look out for the rights of everyone. The Canaanite lady in the Gospel is one of my favorites in the New Testament. Even being a foreigner, she knew her rights and was not afraid to speak up for them.

  • Children have the right, not only to be born, but also to a full and rewarding life.
  • Women have the right not to be considered a consumer’s object.
  • Spouses have the right to their partner’s fidelity and love.
  • Employees have the right to be treated with dignity in a safe work environment.
  • Business owners have the right to honest labor from their employees.
  • Our elderly have the right to our love, understanding and help.
  • Foreigners and refugees have the right to live in safety and to be welcome in our communities.

What am I doing to ensure these rights even as I guard my own?

Beautiful, Sister!

I couldn't have said it better!

In these times, it probably should be on all of our billboards along the highway.

We all need to read it, absorb it and change our ways to be true to it & to God, our Loving & Merciful Savior.

God is good................all the time.....

In Appreciation! Father Bill

Ag, thank you so much for speaking on behalf of the voiceless. Yes, the woman in the Gospel was not afraid to step forward and ask for what she needed. May we have the courage and faith to do the same.

This is Soooo Powerful, Sr. Agnes. Thank you, So Much! This is a Powerful Litany, Soooooo Much Needed for Our Times! I encourage you and recommend that you send this to The Compass, the Green Bay Diocesan newspaper. That is another good way to RAISE OUR VOICES and REACH MORE PEOPLE, in SPEAKING UP and ADVOCATING for HUMAN RIGHTS, and for the RIGHT OF MOTHER EARTH TO HEAL, LIVE, and CONTINUE TO PROVIDE FOR ALL of HER CHILDREN. [I hope my message will be printed as is - with the capital letters, as they are. This is a VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE our prophet, Sister Agnes, has spoken.]

Good summary that applies the Gospel to today's issues.

Thanks, Sr. Agnes, for letting the Canaanite woman speak the truth again. We need to breathe and live her words daily.

And, then, too, along with understanding, recognizing, educating and advocating for Human Rights, we include in that, Human Dignity. The vert first principle of the Social Justice teachings of the RCC (Roman Catholic Church), is the Dignity of Each Person. When Human Rights are being violated and trampled, so, too, is Human Dignity. The brave, courageous, out-spoken Canaanite MOTHER, so driven and moved by her great love for her daughter, spoke up to JESUS, to remind him, that those who are not among 'your' 'tribe,' also have dignity and value and worth. So, too, must we, like the mother who was thus commended by JESUS as 'having great faith,' speak up -- in our prayer-life, and in our active life for truth and justice.
