Lexio Divina is one way to discover how the Word of God speaks to you
by Sister Carolyn Zahringer
The Scriptures are teachings for life. As the practice of Lexio Divina invites us to focus on the word or words of Scripture that call out to us, I’ve chosen lines from Sunday's readings that my personal prayer has focused upon through reflective prayer ponderings. What will your word or words be?
First Reading: "Do not be saddened this day, for rejoicing in the Lord must be your strength.” (Neh. 8:9)
Responsorial Psalm refrain: “Your words, Lord, are spirit and life.” (Psalm 19)
Second Reading: “All of us have been given to drink of one Spirit.” (1 Cor. 12:13)
Gospel of Luke: Jesus “came to Nazareth where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day." (Lk. 4:16)
We are invited by Pope Francis to be “Pilgrims of Hope” during this Jubilee year. What does that look like for us as a nation, a church, an individual this year?
“Joy is the most infallible sign of the awareness of the presence of God.” (Chardin)
“Joy is the echo of God’s life in us.” (Abbot Marmion)
What brings you hope and joy?
People like you, Carrie. Thanks for the reminder.
