Reflection for Jan. 14, 2024

'Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will'

Hearing the Word of God doesn't have to be done alone

by Sister Carolyn Zahringer

Sunday's readings focus on call and response. Samuel doesn't know about the call until Eli assists his response.

St. Paul sets before us a question we all must "hear" and respond to: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God with your body." (1 Cor. 6:19-20) How we do that is up to us daily. We are part of the Mystical Body of Christ. Every day we are being called to "come". What are we being called to?

The Gospel tells of Andrew telling his brother, Peter, about Jesus. Peter responded to the call delivered by Andrew. Can we hear a "call" in the daily happenings of our life?

Right on, Carrie. And today is a good day to relax and listen for the call.

Thank you, Carrie, for reminding us to listen to the "call" today and every day.

Thanks Carrie! We are indeed soul AND body!

This is certainly a vocation Sunday. And most of all, it includes an invitation to be "listening" to the call of the Lord. Eli, the elder, was so wise in directing the youth.

So happy to be reminded that we are not alone, but part of the mystical body of Christ. Thanks, Sr. Carrie, for celebrating the journey together as family.
