The Empty Tomb

by Sister Agnes Fischer

The Empty Tomb

The Fifteenth Station of the Way of the Cross.

The station that gives meaning to all the other stations of Christ's Way of the Cross and of our personal Way of the Cross.

If the tomb had not been empty, the life, passion and death of Jesus would have been admirable, worthy of all our gratitude, but absolutely useless.

If the tomb had not been empty, our lives, our sorrows and our death, would have no meaning.

Jesus Christ and we would have been born, grown, suffered, and died and definitively disappeared.

But fortunately, the tomb was empty, and not because someone had stolen the Lord's corpse (as Mary Magdalene thought) but because the Lord had risen.

Thus, Jesus triumphed from death, and we are absolutely sure that, united with him, we will rise and eternally share his happiness.

Likewise, we are sure that our life, that each of the painful stations of our small Way of the Cross, as well as our death, have a meaning and a value for eternal life.

How good it is that Mary Magdalene, Simon Peter and John did not find the tomb of Christ occupied!
