Reflection for January 4, 2026

Epiphany

Where is the newly born king of the Jews?

If the magi of today, that is, men and women of good will, who want to know where Jesus is, were to ask today, the scriptures would tell us that Jesus is found:

  • In those who are hungry
  • In those who don't have anything to put on
  • In those who are incarcerated or detained
  • In the sick
  • In the indigenous people who are treated as foreigners

In these persons Jesus is waiting for us to receive the gold of our financial help, the incense of our respect and the myrrh of our understanding and our affection.

To find him, we don’t have to leave our land, we simply must leave our egoism and our own interests.

Thanks for reminding us of the many places where we find Jesus in our world and in our lives. I like the thoughts of ways to respond like gold, incense and myrrh.

Thank you, Sister, for your teaching. There is such a long list of places and persons in which we may find Jesus, I would like to at least add "strangers in your land" your list. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks Aggie for reminding us that our prayer is to be aware of the many ways we might offer others gold, frankincense and myrrh. So many times it's not dramatic and those whose path we cross daily.

Thank you for again reminding us that our help and charity are needed right here at home.

I loved your reflection and hadn't thought of it that way.
