Reflection for Sept. 21, 2025

Trusting God in the choices we make

Daily decisions shape our witness to Christ’s presence in the world

Sister Carolyn Zahringer

We are met with many questions each day. In what or whom will we place our trust?

Our Baptism was the beginning of our faith journey. As Christians, we are meant to choose God above all as we journey from day to day, moment to moment.

The readings this weekend focus on choices. May we journey with living faith to make our responses to the daily questions with a measure of confidence. God is faithful.

How will we respond when tempted to be untrustworthy or dishonest at home, at work, in our casual conversations?

How will our lives give witness to Jesus as we journey through each day?

As Matthew Kelly of Dynamic Catholic states in his writings and presentations: "Be brave, be bold, be Catholic!”

Thank you for this reflection, Carrie. Too often, I forget that my daily interactions give witness to Jesus. Were I to remember that, I surely would act differently. Thank you for the reminder!

Life indeed calls us to many choices. You stated it so well: "In what or whom will we place our trust?"

Why do we have to "be Catholic?" I know many brave, courageous people filled with integrity, compassion and a passion for caring, giving their time, talents, energy, and convictions to form a "world that works for everyone" in every way possible - economically, environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling - no matter with or without religion - just, and oriented toward a vision of not only respecting, but valuing others' Cultures, with all peoples living in dignity and freedom to belong, as they are, who are not 'Catholic.'

The way I was 'raised into' the Vision and Spirit of Vatican II was that it was called "The Ecumenical Council" for a very real, and much needed reason.

I grow in gratitude and appreciation for the way Martin Luther King, Jr. challenged us to look at "the content of one's character" in which we regard people "for their moral and ethical qualities rather than superficial attributes" like skin color, wealth, position, or religion. MLK, Jr. called us to evaluate "individuals based on their integrity, truthfulness, and actions, fostering a more equitable and just community."

In essence, and in truth, it is our [common] humanity in which the Spirit dwells, and through which JESUS fulfilled his Life's Purpose and His One and Only Mission. Thus, we are motivated, not only in words, but in lived example, to fulfill ours.

Very well written Sister Carolyn: ... It's like driving down the road without a map, and deciding which way to go? In life, we Pray that guidance is given to stay on the correct and safe path in life. Thank You :)
