Sister Anne Margaret Carmody exemplified dignity for all

Sister Anne Margaret Carmody, (also known as Sister Paul Ann), age 78, died on Sunday, July 30, 2023.  She was born on June 27, 1945, in Sturgeon Bay, daughter of the late Paul and Ann (McCarty) Carmody. She entered the convent in 1963, professed her vows in 1966, and celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 2014.

Sister Anne Margaret earned a bachelor's degree in Theology from Marquette University, Milwaukee; a master's degree in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University, Chicago; and a master's degree in Social Work from the UW-Milwaukee. She served as an elementary school teacher at Holy Angels, Darboy; St. Jude, Green Bay; St. Mary, Bear Creek; St. Isidore, Osman; Holy Trinity, Casco; and St. Francis of Assisi and Gallup/McKinley schools in Gallup, N.M. She served as a recovery educator at Mesilla Valley Hospital in Gallup, and a program service coordinator and resident manager for the S.E.T. Ministry in Milwaukee.

She also served in Green Bay as a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul, a case worker at St. John Shelter, a support staff at House of Hope, and volunteer at Wellspring. She had great compassion for the poor and needy, and was passionate about treating all persons justly and with dignity. She knew how to make connections and provide the services needed.

Survivors include the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross and Associates; a sister, Kathleen Kaye, Brookfield; a brother, Frank (Sue), Green Bay; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: Paul and Ann; sisters Barbara (who died in infancy), Joan Peterson and Eunice Londo; brothers Michael, William and Robert; sisters-in-law Peggy Carmody and Rita Carmody; brothers-in-law Leon Chametski, Melvin Londo, Alvin Peterson and Norbert Kaye.

Visitation will be at St. Francis Convent, 3110 Nicolet Drive, Green Bay on Friday, Aug. 4, from 9 to 10:30 am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am with Father David McElroy, O.Praem, officiating. The Burial Service will be in the St. Francis Convent Cemetery following the Mass.
