Always growing as a Sister: Renewing our call & mission

Following our 2013 Chapter, the Spiritual Renewal Committee initiated a three-year process. As a committee we felt a desire to go back to the foundational documents that guide our lives:

  • The Rule of St. Francis
  • Our Community History
  • Our Constitution, Design for Life

The three-year process is focused on three themes from our charism statement:

  • Being women of prayer
  • Living simple lives
  • Compassionately responding to the needs of our times

Our Sisters have formed small groups for faith sharing on these themes, using one of the documents each year. This fall we begin year three. Through this experience of faith sharing our Sisters strive to deepen their commitment to Christ and to strengthen their relationship with one another and God’s people.

Pray for us that we may live our commitment to religious life with joy and with love for God, each other and all people.

What the renewal process has meant for one group of Sisters
“We had much discussion on how we look at poverty differently now than in the past. We need as religious to be aware of self-emptying. The powerful image of Lady Poverty for St. Francis was perhaps like his Bride for self-emptying and like Jesus who emptied himself for our sake.” Finger_Michele_Sr_2012-100px
Sister Michele Finger

“I appreciated the sincere responses of the group. Our meetings were in a spiritual atmosphere of faith sharing.”

Sister Margaret Mary Halbach

“I believe faith sharing has become a reality for us.”

Sister Charlene Hockers

“The message contained within the Rule of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis is precious. It contains directives which I promised to obey and live for the past 77 years. Using the Rule for our group-sharing offered a guide to living today in 2016 -- guideposts for the Franciscan way of living: cheerfully, prayerfully, and generously.”

Sister Mary Ellen Lowney

“Through faith sharing we have learned a lot from one another.”

Sister Angela Palm

“Through faith sharing, I have a better understanding of the Sisters and myself.”

Sister Madonna Swintkoske

“Our faith sharing inspired me and helped me realize how deep our Franciscan roots are in our daily lives.”

Sister Martin Vandervest

“I appreciated the openness and honest discussions we had as a faith-sharing group.”
