Sister Jeanne Jarvis

Christ is the source of her enthusiam

Sister Jeanne Jarvis

Sister Jeanne Jarvis never imagined that she would be here to celebrate her 80th jubilee. She is grateful to her loving God and hard-working, fun-loving, faith-filled parents, Ed and Malvina (LaPlante) Jarvis. They taught Jeanne and her brother Edward Jr. to pray daily for God’s presence and guidance.

As a young girl, Jeanne was adventurous and loved the outdoors, particularly biking and skiing. Books were her constant companions. Dances were held in the home, with rugs rolled up and rice on the floors. The family was active in their parish where the priests were outgoing, generous and caring.

After eighth grade, Jeanne entered St. Francis Convent where she attended high school and entered religious life. It was during her formation as a novice and young professed that Jesus became real to her. Sister’s relationship with Christ has been her source of energy and enthusiasm over the years. She treasures prayer and quiet to this day.

Sister’s love for people and lifelong learning is reflected in her ministries: teacher, supervisor of schools, coordinator of family experiences, director of religious education, pastoral associate, and missionary. The eight years of living with and teaching mentally and physically challenged youth at the Crippled Children’s Home in Champion were most rewarding. With the influx of Hmong, Laotian, Thai and Latino refugees and immigrants to the Green Bay area Sister Jeanne devoted the last 29 years of “retirement” working with them and teaching English as a Second Language.

Reflecting on her 80th jubilee, she is guided by two words, “gratitude” and “now”; gratitude for God’s call to religious life, and now for the importance of living in the present. She thanks everyone who has touched her life through prayer, time, example, support, and shared fears and hopes during her 96 years.
