Vocations
Living a Life that Matters:
which path is God leading you to?
In baptism, each of us is called—each receives a “vocation.” The Second Vatican Council in the 1960’s reminded us that each of us is called to holiness. Each of us is invited to respond by loving and serving God and other people. We do this in a variety of ways. No call is better than another. Each life-style is unique and is an essential part of the Church.
Each one of us has Christian vocation. “Your vocation is where your deep gladness meets the worlds deep need.” (Fredrick Buechner). Marriage, Priesthood, Consecrated Life, and the Single Life are all choices you have in living out your Christian Vocation.
To which path to holiness are you called?
How do you discover that path?
Discernment: Discovering God’s Call in my Life.
Remember the scene is the Gospel where the rich young man asks Jesus, “Master, what is the greatest commandment of all?” This young man was really asking the right question. He was asking:
What’s the most important thing for me to do with my life?
What’s the one thing that will give my life meaning and purpose?
What’ s the one thing worth sacrificing everything else for?
In addition, Jesus gives him the straightest answer anyone can give: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The most important task in life is to learn to love. That is what our Christian vocation is all about.
