Arbor Day Planting and Blessing
In honor of Arbor Day, April 30, Sisters and Associate Gene Dalebroux planted and blessed a new addition to the Motherhouse grounds. Arbor Day, founded by J. Sterling Morton in 1872, is a nationally-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. A beautiful little blue spruce tree was planted on the north side of the grounds near the parking lot. Eventually we will create a cluster of trees that can serve as a wind break from the cold winter winds.
Creator of life and Sustainer of seed and soil, of tree and flower, you have created this world and all that lives in it. We come to you in this prayer of dedication and blessing. Holy Creator of tress and forests, come and place your blessing of life upon this blue spruce tree. Together with this tree, may all who appreciate its beauty give glory to you. Amen.
Did you know that one tree over a span of 50 years:
- Generates $31,250 worth of oxygen
- Provides $62,000 worth of pollution control
- Recycles $37,500 worth of water
- Controls $31,250 worth of soil erosion
