Why I love being a Sister

posted on: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 by: rbauer

Is it because of the joy we have in serving others? Or the closeness we feel with God during prayer? In this blog, our Sisters share why they love being a Sister, and remain true to their vows after 50, 60 or 70 years.

Managua, Nicaragua, is a city of over a million people with more that 50 thousand taxis. One day I hailed a cab and, as I got in, the driver said: "Sister Agnes!" He had been a participant in a course we gave some years before in Bluefields on the opposite side of the country. What's not to like about that?

I look at the life I have had so far as a Bay Settlement Sisters and say "wow!" I have had so many opportunities to grow in my faith and love of God and share it with others. Some people look at religious life and think of what a person gives up, I think they should look at all a person gains.

I look back on my years as a Franciscan Sister and think of all the opportunities and graces I have received. I am overwhelmed at God's great love.
I praise and thank God .
