What was your first job before entering
community or your first ministry? What did you enjoy about
My first ministry as a Sister of St. Francis was teaching second grade at St. Matthew School in Allouez. The best part was preparing the second-graders to receive Jesus for the first time in Holy Communion. I believe I was able to help the children to be excited and enthusiastic about receiving Jesus in the Eucharist.
As Franciscans celebrate 800 years since St. Clare joined St. Francis in following Christ, what one facet of her life would you like more people to know?
I would like people to know that St. Clare was very patient with her own illness. She suffered a long period of illness before her death. And, did you know that St. Clare was designated as the patron saint of television in 1958? When St. Clare was too ill to attend Mass, it was reported that she was able to see and hear the Mass on the wall of her room.
We often hear the phrase, "We are Easter people." What
does it mean to you or how do you live it?
I believe that "We are Easter people". I believe that Jesus has risen from the dead and that because of that resurrection, Jesus is here with us Christians. His new life makes it possible for him to be with me here and now.
What makes you laugh?
I laugh at myself - especially when I do something that is so much like something I was just critical about regarding someone else! I laugh at this and other the incongruities of life!
Rooted in the Cross, Word, and Eucharist ... compassionately responding through prayer, presence, and hospitality.
