Sister Mary Grace Peters, OSF, age 90, died peacefully at Woodside Nursing Home on July 21, 2012.
Sister Mary Grace (Margaret Ann) was born April 8, 1922, in West De Pere to Urban and Clara (Kersten) Peters. She attended St. Boniface Grade School where she had a great love for school and the Sisters of St. Francis who were her elementary teachers. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy. Later she received a bachelor's degree in English from St. Norbert College and a master's degree in history from Marquette University. Sister Mary Grace entered the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross in 1940. She was professed in August 1943 and made final profession in August 1949. She celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in August 2001.
Sister Mary Grace spent many years of dedicated service as a teacher and principal. She loved teaching and taught in schools in the Green Bay Diocese: St. John, Howard; St. Joseph, Marinette; St. Mary, Bear Creek; and Holy Cross, Bay Settlement. She served her Community as Director of Postulants, Community Secretary, General Councilor, receptionist/secretary and Development Office Secretary. Sister Mary Grace retired at the Motherhouse in 2003. Sister Mary Grace is remembered for her love of prayer, beautiful smile, reading, playing cards and visiting the sick. Her favorite quote was "Joy is not in things; it is in us."
She is survived by her sister-in-law Bonnie Peters, nieces and nephews, and by the members and Associates of her Community, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross. Sister Mary Grace was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Norbert, Robert, and John and sisters-in-law Veramae and Helen Peters.
Visitation and Vigil Service were held on July 23 at St. Francis Convent. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on July 24 by Monsignor James Dillenburg at St. Bernard Church, Green Bay.
