Here's a quick and easy way to learn more about our Catholic faith: Turn on your computer, open your internet browser, and visit www.youtube.com/user/srelise/videos.

There you will find a new ministry called "Early Morning Catechism," organized by Sister Elise Cholewinski.  Playing off the title of the long-running theater show "Late Night Catechism," Sister Elise developed "Early Morning Catechism" as a way to provide people with short, focused lessons about our faith.

"I know people are busy working long hours, raising families and sometimes caring for extended family members, which makes it difficult for them to come to events," says Sister Elise, who is the director of religious education for Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly/Darboy. "I thought if I could offer short lessons and make them available any time of day that that might be attractive to some of our members."

Averaging about one video per week, each five-minute lesson addresses an aspect of the Sunday readings or a current celebration in the Church, such as National Vocation Awareness Week on Jan. 8.  So far, her 11 videos have been viewed nearly 1,000 times.

"I am overwhelmed by the number of responses," says Sister Elise.  "It makes me realize that the project is necessary and helpful.  I think Jesus would be pleased.  I'm discovering that this is a wonderful way to evangelize.  Many Catholics are learning basic things about our faith and it makes me overjoyed."

Producing the video segments is possible with the help of Randy Van Handel, whom Sister Elise describes as "a generous volunteer who comes when he's not at work," and Diane Cahall, the parish's Faith Formation Elementary Coordinator.

The YouTube videos are free to watch and do not require an account; however, if you want to receive an email notifying you each time a new "Early Morning Catechism" video is available, then a YouTube account is required. Just click on the "Subscribe" button near the top.
